My name is
Stella Whittingham and I am a dedicated and passionate
cloth doll maker and collector.
I actually made my first doll over 20 years ago, and dabbled
over the years in different types of dolls, but I never took the
craft seriously for a number of reasons. The foremost reasons
that come to mind are ...... family commitments (hubby and 3
young kids), work, and last but not least, a chronic lack of
information on the subject.
How lucky we are today to have information and help at our
fingertips, and so many patterns to choose from.
My mum was my champion and encouraged me to take my craft
further and build on it, make a home based business and teach
others the art of doll-making.
I never considered myself a 'real doll-maker' during those
years, although the passion burned, always.
Unfortunately I didn't take her advice when she was alive.
Sadly mum passed away suddenly in March of 2003.
Towards the end of that year, once I accepted the fact that the
sun still came up every morning, that my family and friends
needed me, that my mum would live forever in my heart, I knew
that my 'champion' would be beside me, guiding me, always.
From then on, I started making dolls 'in earnest'. Within months
I was designing my own. I couldn't put the patterns to paper
quick enough, so many ideas were jostling with each other -
dolls demanding to be made.
And so, now, I have what mum wished for me. A successful website
business selling my own designs. I also sell at fairs and
markets. I teach, and I was invited to judge the
cloth doll making at the Whyalla Show.
I dedicate my business and this website to my dear mum, best
friend and champion, Molly Hill
