STEP 13 - BLOCK 8.

Block 8.

 

This is a pieced Star block using 3 fabrics, plus one for the borders.

Of fabric 1 (red) you will need: one 4 ½” square and eight 2 ½” squares.

Of fabric 2 (blue floral) you will need: eight 2 ½” x 4 ½” rectangles; four 2 ½” squares; four 2 7/8” squares.

Of fabric 3 (cream tonal) you will need: four 2 7/8” squares; twelve 2 ½” squares.

Border fabric, you will need: two strips 1” x 12 ½”; two strips 2” x 14”.

1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of eight of the cream tonal 2 ½” squares;

Match a square to one end of the blue floral rectangle. Stitch on the drawn line and trim ¼” away from the seam. Press seam towards the triangle.

Repeat on the opposite side as shown. Make four flying geese.

2. Repeat these steps with the red 2 ½” squares and the remaining blue floral rectangles.

3. Sew one of the red and blue flying geese rectangles to each side of the centre red 4 ½” square. Press seams towards large square.

Join a 2 ½” blue floral square to either side of remaining two red/blue flying geese.

   

Sew to sides of block.

4. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the blue floral 2 7/8” squares.

With right sides facing, layer one of these squares with a cream tonal 2 7/8” square.

Stitch ¼” from either side of the drawn line.

Cut apart on marked line and press toward the blue floral fabric.

Repeat 3 more times to make eight 2 ½” HT squares.

Join to sides of blue/cream flying geese as shown.

Join two of the strips to sides of block.

          

To the remaining two blue/cream flying geese strips, add a 2 ½” cream tonal square. Join these to top and bottom of block.

             

 

Sew the 1” border strips to top and bottom, and then add the side strips to complete the block.
